What Path To Take?

Bellydance is a great way to get in shape, meet new people and explore your creative side. Whatever your goal is in bellydance, we have a path to help you on your journey.

All of our classes are grounded in a strong technical foundation. If you are just beginning or are a casual dancer, we encourage you to take either a Beginner I or II Technique, Beginner I or II Choreography, Cardio Class or 30 Minute Express (Shimmy) Class.

We hope that you will fall in love with this ancient and mysterious art form and will want to explore Bellydance more thoroughly. If this is your goal, we recommend a more structured approach by enrolling in our 2 Semester - 26 week R.A.K.S.™ Program. (Rhythm, Articulation, Kinetics, Style)

Class Structure and Levels:

Class Structure:  Class structure is based on clear movement breakdowns, drilling the basics, hands on corrections and integrating movements through combinations, choreography and improvisational exercises.

Technique: In technique, you learn foundational movements. Think of it as laying the foundation for a house. Without a sturdy foundation, the house would fall down. We all recommend and take technique classes and I always advise students to take both if they really want to learn how to bellydance. Also many people feel that the choreography is easier to grasp and retain once they have taken technique because you have already learned the movements and in choreography you are putting them together in a sequence.

Choreography: In choreography each class builds on the other, we learn anywhere from 15-30 seconds each week of the song depending on the complexity and length of the selection. We progress through the choreography each week during class, and at the end of a course, you have an entire dance from start to finish

Discover Bellydance Cardio:

Empowering, enchanting, and second only to swimming for all over body toning, bellydance is both an exercise and a personal celebration. Master the body undulations, turns, shimmies and upper body isolations of this ancient and beautiful dance form. This class will have a short warm up - approximately 10 mins. The remainder of the class is all choreography and combinations. The focus of the class is artistry and fun. So how much fun can you have burning 300 calories in an hour? Discover Belly Dance Cardio and Find Out!

Beginner Technique - Students will learn new movements each class, building coordination, grace, strength, and flexibility. The goal of this class is to master the following movements without help or direction from the instructor. This class will focus on skill building, technique, execution, artistry, polish and choreographic interpretation - not caloric burn. Students who are interested in performing should master each of these movements before proceeding to the next level.

Beginner Choreography- Students will continue to build a solid dance foundation through the use of choreography. The Basic movements are combined in a short choreography that will give students the opportunity to learn an entire dance from start to finish. Many students take Basic Beginner Choreography and Basic Beginner Technique simultaneously.

Intermediate: Refine and master technique through advanced combinations and learning more intricate movement vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on spins, entrance steps, speed and layering.

Intermediate Technique: Practice weekly conditioning for maintaining a full movement repertoire. Each class will focus on one movement from the Intermediate curriculum, in addition to rhythm-based drills for muscle memory development and musical training. Emphasis is on quality movement execution, alignment, stamina and whole-body awareness.

Intermediate Choreography: Students will build movement repertoire in preparation for performing complex ensemble choreographies. Learn to perform intricate floor patterns, arm paths and turns with confidence and strong alignment.

Advanced  Will concentrate on components for raqs sharqi performance sets, including more advanced turns, entrance veil work, cane, taqsim and drum solos. Emphasis is on emotional expression, improvisation and musical interpretation.
